Fly In Fishing at Misaw Lake Lodge

Fly In Fishing at Misaw Lake Lodge

What interested me the most about planning our trip to Misaw Lake Lodge was their access to so many remote lakes. The thought of heading to areas with so little fishing pressure filled me with anticipation for months leading up to it.

Our trip started by flying over northern Saskatchewan, surrounded by endless trees and untouched lakes. It’s a surreal feeling when finally, out in the middle of the wilderness, the bright cabins, boats and float plane appeared.

We hiked into one of their many portage lakes, known for giant pike and grayling. Boating up to a small docking area, we unloaded and headed up the trail to a cached boat on the tributary lake.

Traversing through a winding river system, we reached a rushing inflow at the end of the river—just as the sun broke through, creating perfect pike conditions.

Casting swimbaits into the current, it only took a few casts before landing our first giant: a thick 42.5-inch pike. The action never slowed down, and within just a few hours, five pike over 40 inches were in the boat. You couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces.

Catching giant pike all morning works up an appetite. We slid into a shore lunch spot for a late lunch. Fresh fish and homemade fries over an open fire never gets old. After lunch, it was time to hit the lake trout hole, which conveniently is right next to the shore lunch spot. We dropped tube jigs into 80 feet of water and tangled with a few hard hitting trout. When they bite, you know it. A great way to cap off a beautiful day in Northern Saskatchewan
